Ria Backs Melbourne Renegades for Cricket Champions League

Everybody loves a good game of cricket, and our customers in South Asia are no exception. That’s why Ria has jumped at the chance to sponsor the Melbourne Renegades’ 2018/2019 campaign and becoming the presenting partner of the Melbourne Renegades Champions League.

For a few years now, we have been on the hunt for an Australian premier sports team. Knowing our customers’ hearts are set on cricket, we seized the opportunity to join forces with the Melbourne Renegades.

Despite the sport originating in England in the late 16th century, the Aussies have had the upper hand since beating the English at the world’s first international game of cricket, which they hosted in Melbourne.

England had their rematch in 1882 at London’s Oval, but Australia kept its crown with newspapers deeming the match “the death of English cricket.”

Today, the sport can draw in up to 150 million viewers during World Cup finals, among them many of our customers.

Nik Maricic, Ria Australia’s Marketing Manager commented: “Ria is growing rapidly within the South Asian community and quickly becoming the preferred remittance brand for many families when they send money back home to loved ones. That’s why the primary goal was to support a sports team that is supported by our customers.”

Renegades CEO Stuart Coventry shared that, “Ria has a strong presence in the South Asian community and the Champions League works closely with that community as well, so there is strong alignment with the two brands and we’re looking forward to working closely with Ria moving forward.”

The Champions League tournament gives amateur players from Melbourne the opportunity to represent their respective country in a T20 format tournament. This edition sees returning representatives of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal, with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders team participating for the first time.

The Champions League is just the beginning of our partnership, and we look forward to supporting the Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming BBL and WBBL season.

At Ria, we’re thankful for the opportunity to cheer alongside our customers who hold cricket so close to their hearts.

The Melbourne Renegades Champions League presented by Ria Money Transfer opened on October 28, 2018.
