Ria and Save the Children: a renewed commitment to vulnerable children and communities

February 29, 2024 — 3 min read

As we celebrate the second anniversary of our partnership with Save the Children, we are happy to renew our collaboration and commitment once again in 2024 with projects in Mexico and the Philippines.

Through our sponsorship of Save the Children’s project we are able to drive positive change for vulnerable children, providing them with the tools they need to build a better future. This partnership is an important part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which aims to thoroughly integrate social concerns into our corporate strategy. We are proud of the results we have achieved so far and are committed to continuing our support of the most vulnerable people and communities.

“Learning, Educating, and Advocating for the Future by Children” project in the Philippines

After the success of last year’s project “SEED” (“Sustainable Early Education and Development for Children”), we are continuing our sponsorship in the Antipolo region in the Philippines with SEED’s evolution, project “LEAF” (“Learning, Educating, and Advocating for the Future (LEAF) by Children”).

The project aims to improve early childhood care and development, raise awareness about the region’s climate crisis, and empower children to actively participate in disaster risk reduction efforts.

The Philippines ranks first in the World Risk Index 2023, and is increasingly experiencing unprecedented high temperatures, rainfalls and extreme weather events that are disrupting the everyday life of the community. The ones suffering the most from the environmental crisis in Antipolo are the most vulnerable groups in the city. Children with disabilities are facing greater barriers to access essential services, and indigenous peoples are witnessing the erosion of their cultural heritage, like the disappearance of animal species and herbal medicines.

For these reasons, Save the Children saw the urgency of empowering children in these communities to bolster their resilience, and we jumped at the opportunity to help. Thanks to this partnership, we can safeguard hundreds of children, boosting emergency and disaster preparedness in schools and the whole Antipolo community.

“Early Childhood Education” project in Mexico City and State of Mexico

For the third consecutive year, we are renewing our commitment to the local community in Mexico by funding Save the Children’s “Early Childhood Education” project. This sponsorship will ensure access to quality education for preschool children from vulnerable families in the area.

Receiving the support and care they need in their early years can greatly impact children’s futures, improving their wellbeing and chances for success. This is something we are well aware of, as our customers often use our services to send money back home for the education of the kids in their families and communities.

This year, the project will benefit 1200 vulnerable children attending Community Child Development Centers (CCDICs), educational and protective spaces in low-income neighborhoods where infants and children between 45 days and 6 years old receive early childhood and preschool education. The families that rely on these centers lack access to social security and the resources to pay for private childcare. Without this program, the families would be forced to leave their kids alone at home when they leave for work. In a region where a big portion of the population lives in poverty and even extreme poverty, the CCDICs and Save the Children offer much-needed relief.

Through our sponsorship, children will be welcomed into safe spaces and receive the quality education and learning materials they need to grow up healthy, safe, and well cared for. Teachers will also be trained and provided with lesson plans and resources.

Take a look at what the centers look like in a video we shot back in 2022.

Our commitment to local communities

At Ria, we are committed to opening ways for a better everyday life for people and communities. We believe everyone should have access to the support, resources, and tools they need to thrive. Every person is important, and we feel the responsibility to do our part and empower them to achieve their dreams.
